Spent the morning sorting out the boat in preparation for the next leg. Mostly involving cleaning the decks now there is water from the dock and crew to scrub! Left Boston at about 10.30 in glorious sunshine. About 3 hours later we were in the thickest fog I have ever been in. The fog gave way to rain and then eventually cleared just before we reached the Isle of Shoals.
These islands are only 7 miles off Plymouth and straddle the border between New Hampshire and Maine. We spent the night in a harbour bordered by Star Island, complete with Religious Retreat; Smuttynose Island; Cedar Island, described in the pilot guide as good for the relief of marine pets..... and Appledore, with a research station of Cornell University, specializing in bees.
Just after we picked up a mooring buoy, the fog descended again and remained throughout the night. The whole place is rather bleak, bizarrely reminiscent of the Falklands!
Bioluminescence here - very twinkly!
