Kavieng

Tuesday 13th November

What fun everyone has had with Sea Glass and Totem this week, which could be the last time we travel with them…. Or maybe not!! Plans continually change so we may catch up, which would be lovely as everyone gets on well. Kavieng (is rather a dirty town but a lovely spot to anchor at Nusa Island.  A walk around the island yesterday to look at the school and then to the craft market was once again in thick bush of coconuts, walnut, pandanus and many other lush species. Lovely carvings, bracelets and necklaces made of shell and mies (baggi or necklaces), their money and bride price! Pouring rain, not unusual now, which blew over quickly, left puddles everywhere and filled our tanks.

Today, after stocking up on fresh fruit and vegetables at the market we spent most of the morning ‘dealing’ with the bank. Nice to be in air conditioning and good patience exercise waiting in the long queue! The girls loved using the hooker to look at the coral today and have taken to it very easily. I enjoyed looking at the Japanese plane wreck we dived on, the wings and fuselage quite visible embedded in the sand.

We enjoyed dinner at the resort last night, a smorgasbord, with games and beautiful water to entertain the children.  The girls have had lots of fun swimming between boats on kayaks, boogie boards and just with flippers. A teddy bears picnic, donuting and just having fun with their friends, has made the stay here very enjoyable. Joshua and Jacob came to accompany the girls on their ukuleles for the songs they have written.

Behan and I went to church on Sunday under a huge tree laden with ferns and other growth. After waiting for some time for it to start, we were preached to, as part of the thanksgiving service, about ‘how much we give depends on how much you love god!’ The singing is what we were waiting for, which was worth the wait and a delicious lunch we were not allowed to leave without trying!
