We're plugging away at the miles and despite not being able to use the spinnaker doing reasonable speed, but we are headed in slightly the wrong direction. Turning on course means sailing a more downwind direction which, using white sails, will kill our boat speed. Doing the extra miles works out more efficiently. VMG velocity made good is what counts, that is speed towards destination (which right now is .4 of a knot slower than boat speed). We have around 720 miles to go, 100 hours at 7 knots, but our course adds another 40 miles or perhaps a bit more depending on the gybe angle we get.
Totally sick of marlin now, honestly it is the worst tasting fish we catch, tough and horrible - beautiful creatures, great sport and we seem to be hooking a few but everyone's happier when they are set free. We'll try for nice dorado today, they too are beautiful but importantly i'm meaning both in the sea and on a fork.
Asia has picked up the cooking bug last couple of days, crunchy coated chicken and stuffed tomatoes with self saucing lemon pudding last night, previous was plum and pear crumble.
Russian roulette with our eggs, we set of with 6 dozen but of course there is no European grading or date stamp system in place in Galapogas, 1 in 4 is a bad egg now.
Have decided to make landfall at the southern most Marquesas island, Fatu Hiva40. Fatu Hiva is miles south of Hiva Oa, it is not a port of entry but is a must see, avoids a return trip from Hiva Oa and because we are off course will shortly be south of it in any case.
