Moorglade's Voyage

We had to stay another 2 days because of terrible rain and then gale force winds. It is obviously a feature of this time of the year as we were stuck on Borgholm on Oland island last year at exactly the same time. We amused ourselves by walking round the island, doing all the jobs that didn’t get done in Fehmarn, catching up on blogs and trying the (few) different cakes on offer in the little shop.

The beach area; we think that maybe they used to fill it up with water and the platform was the start of a slide or maybe water levels have dropped

The swimming area next to the beach in calm weather and after the gales

There are no cars but variations on this theme are popular or alternatively we saw one quad bike and a modified golf cart (that was by the shop)

The harbour entrance. Obviously not everyone comes by boat

The football pitch – we thought the playing surface left a little to be desired

  Looking down the harbour

I was very taken with the foundations of this shed, which was very much the norm although some sheds were less straight than others

Our berth was by the fire station and the fire people were testing their pumps in the rain (we think)

This has to be the hardest wearing but most uncomfortable furniture in the world. The suite was made of hard fibreglass, even the cushions. It was outside what appeared to be the fishermans’ club/restaurant

The only way they can dispose of rubbish – a big bonfire

The ferry that services the island

The gull appears critical of the amount of sweeping up going on here
