After the cake we set off through the woods and across the rocks to explore the island. There are nature trails marked by coloured rocks and some wonderful views from the higher points. We couldn’t get round everything that evening so the next morning we finished our exploration before we left. We also got to see the boat that Lennart is building to his own design but inspired by a Norwegian design. We were sorely tempted to stay as there were musicians scheduled to play on the rocky terrace that evening, but other venues and ultimately Helsinki were calling and we knew we had to push on.

cid:image019.jpg@01D1D56D.AC2EE100  Good job we didn’t need this East cardinal to keep us off the rocks

Lennart has some serious wood working machinery and plenty of access to the raw material

The next morning the ferry cum supply ship brought post, building materials

cid:image027.jpg@01D1D56D.AC2EE100and a camp site

cid:image028.jpg@01D1D56D.AC2EE100Lennart built this and it is a second sauna (there is already a wood fired one by the harbour) and beautifully planned but simple holiday accommodation in the other half of the building

cid:image034.jpg@01D1D571.49152BC0I loved the elegance and simplicity of this hook in the toilet, which also had a clear glass panel in the door and a wonderful view.

cid:image037.jpg@01D1D571.D4AB4570  There were no horses on the is;and so I wasn’t sure what these were doing here. I know now they are for the game where they are thrown  over a peg!
