Lunchtime yesterday we were still sailing close hauled on starboard tack, whereas now we are running before a very light breeze, with cruising chute set, as we progress slowly up the west side of a high. during the night we resorted to the engine to keep moving. Light winds have their benefits, easy cooking, showers, well for two of us, and a calm sea.
Our daily distance run has been taken from the trip log of our chart plotter and, while we have thought it, in the past, to be optimistic, it was not until this morning that we decided the gps was not to be beloved. Checks confirmed it was set to nautical miles and not kilometres. We have decided that when the boat is moving slowly the sideways movement of the swell and waves is significant and the chart plotter adds all that up. In future our distance run will be based on progress made to a way point and not from the trip log.
We have just finished lunch and are feeling drowsy in the midday heat.
