There have been one or two whingeing emails complaining about the lack of blogs over the last few days. Well I'm very sorry but there are things to do here in Horta. We have done one or two jobs on the boat but, there is such a lot of socialising expected of one, that progress has been slow and blogging has been regrettably neglected.
We arrived in Horta just after midday on the 4th after motoring in calm conditions since 21:00 the previous evening.  Calling on the VHF received no reply so we found a space alongside to check in. Actually this proved very easy, Portugal now has a computer system which dispensed with the endless form filling. We proceeded to our assigned berth after filling up with diesel. 172 litres consumed since Marion.
Horta is a special place in many respects. It is a very pleasant city with a splendid harbour, and importantly all the yachts arriving here have made a significant ocean passage. No costal cruisers or charter boats. We have met people we knew and made new friends. There are boats from all over the world all with unique cruising plans, some outbound with new dreams and some, like us, home bound after  terrific trips, but all with so much in common. It is not hard to pass the time swapping stories over a few beers. We have enjoyed drinks aboard Saltwistle with Tony and Rebecca, Bob and Skip on Apogee and said hello to the Vivaldi crew and spent time yarning with Patrick in the bar. In fact we have been so busy we have not had time to paint Moorglade's name on the harbour wall.
This afternoon we are getting down to it, ready for Richard's arrival later.
