We spent Christmas Day anchored off Calvigny Island on the south coast of Granada. Daphne, Claire’s sister, had flown in the day before from the UK and has joined for a couple of weeks to cruise the Windward islands.  Christmas day was celebrated with a table of old and new friends including Australians Jill and Paul from the yacht Elevation at the La Phare Blu restaurant. We had a traditional lunch of turkey, macaroni cheese and rice(?).  Claire and Daphne (The Girls) both had an aperitif called Long Island Ice Tea and it was only after they started to giggle a lot that it was realised that it was cocktail of Vodka, Rum, Tequila and Gin!  Boxing Day was spent swimming and snorkelling and afterwards we motored in the dinghy across the bay to Roger’s Bar on the beach at Hog Island where  we met some more old cruising friends from South Africa.

Moonstone is now anchored in the warm water of Tyrell Bay on the island of Carriacou.  We had to motor-sail all the way here, the sea between the islands was lumpy and bumpy and Daphne impressively survived the trip without suffering from the sea sickness that sometimes has troubled her – perhaps she’s cured!  Between Granada and Carriacou we pass several deserted islands and sailed over the edge of the occasionally active underwater volcano called Kick’-em-Jenny.

This morning the beach boys motored out to the yachts offering live lobster so we’ve ordering one for tomorrow – yummy!   Today we’ll explore the bay in the dinghy and find somewhere calm to snorkel before going ashore for a wander around.
