Antigua, and on.

How I ever managed to prise Sandra away from Antigua, I will never know.

Right now, Antigua is 10 miles astern of us, and looks just like the jewell it is.
It is a cristal clear evening - 6pm our time - and the visibility is amazing. At 10 miles Antigua looks as if we could reach out and touch it.

Ahead, but to our left, is Nevis, 35 miles away, and clearly visible as a green mountain. 15 miles further out, we can see St. Kitts. Little Redonda looks like a child's drawing of an island. - But on our beam, and 20 miles away, is Montserrat. What a sight that is. It's volcano is belching smoke, and we can occasionaly smell the sulphur from here.

We are on our way to St. Martin. We plan being there at about 9am tomorrow. It is a beautiful evening for a sail.Warm, just a few little clouds dotted around, (a "Simpsons" sky) a light breeze, hardly enough to sail by, and full sail up at 6 knots on a beam reach. It is also a full moon tonight, so will not get dark. This is the 'fix' that keeps sailors addicted.

The temptation is to put a line out, but on an evening like this, killing a fish would be wrong. I think I'll have a beer instead.

I will tell you about the journey to Antigua when I've forgotten the bad bits! To avoid the stress of anticipation however, they included, head winds, big seas, short periods as a submarine, torrential rain, running aground on a reef, and other generally not enjoyable periods.

But this is a beautiful night.

Rod Sandra and the mouse - surrounded by glimpses of heaven
