Gosh what a lovely day. The wind, assuming we are heading in the right
direction, is from directly behind us. Perhaps a little light, but the
forcast has it increasing a little later, and staying that way for a week or
so. In fact as I wrote that I heard Dave in the cockpit saying it was
filling in nicely. We're now doing about 6 knots steady, which will do, with
wind of about 16 knots and a heading of 250 which takes us swinging down
south and on to St Lucia. We are now well into the trade winds. We don't
have an arrival estimate yet, that would be tempting fate, suffice it to say
that we are trying to do better than others in our our class!
Not only have we had perfect weather, we have had a good fishing day, with
two Dorado, and a Blue Runner. We put one of the fish back undamaged as two
was enough. There really is no point having fish in the fridge going stale.
Some of the fish has been filleted into meal sized portions, and buried in
flour with salt and black pepper. It will later be seared in olive oil and
then cooked in the oven. Some was prepared into sushi, with slices of
ginger, rice liquor, wasabi, hoi sin, sweet chilli, and wrapped in seaweed
parcels with rice. This was served as an afternoon snack!
We spoke to Barkas (no.148) today who is having trouble catching fish. We
told him he was 9 miles behind us and to use the pink lures.
The bimini went up today for the first time, and I wore shorts overnight
last night. We are now at 22.38 N, 25.00 W. This makes us officially in the
Tropics
The only scar on the day today occurred at about 1.30 p.m. when suddenly we
were surounded by a huge amount of rubbish.
It was unbelieveable and ranged from bin bags to lifting strops and rope.
Clearly dumped from a ship. We had to avoid the larger bits, and lost our
fishing gear on something we snagged. It was not only pollution, it was
dangerous. - and bear in mind this is some 700 miles from land. This should
be completely pollution free.
I'm finishing this after dinner, and we did indeed have the Blue Runner lightly
seared in olive oil, finished in the oven and served with mashed potato and
sweetcorn.
We are just settling into our overnight shift pattern, and will see what
tomorrow brings.

Enjoy the photos
