Carriacou is only 30 miles from St. George’s but the 12 or so miles from the Northern tip of Grenada is almost always rough and uncomfortable and Saturday was not an exception and we were pleased to anchor in Tyrell Bay.

We took a local taxi tour of the small island and at Windward we were way laid by the ‘pre-school’ choir who sang Christmas Carols for us! This is the centre of wooden boatbuilding in the SE Caribbean and there was a 42ft sloop being built on the beach. Some superb skills but poor materials and fastenings will mean a relatively short lifespan. We were told the vessel would be launched in January but it would appear that it is indicative of the local optimism.

Great views from the hospital on the hill where the tradewinds should help blow any ailments away!
