Gouvia

Saturday May 7, 2011

Left Budva for the 180 mile run to Corfu motoring in sunny weather and a
light northerly. The breeze filled in from the NW after lunch and we set
sail. Added the Gennaker using our new bit of Bamar Roll Gen furling gear
and promptly put 1 ½ knots on our speed. The wind built through the
afternoon to 18 – 20 and the sail performed well. The new 1 meter bowsprit
which was built from 2 inch stainless rod flexed a bit but seems sound.
Rolled the MPS in before dark as we didn’t want any surprises with the new
kit. Duncan and the Cooper brothers took the first watch. Wind dies off a
bit before midnight then comes back in my watch and we are reaching nicely
at 8 ½ knots for a few hours before it dies again in the pre-dawn.

Go to the prescribed Customs dock in Corfu town and learn it has moved to
the north end of the new harbour. Check in and get our Greek Trip Log. Quite
straight forward procedure. We must renew the log each 3 months and can be
in Greece a maximum of 6 months per year. On renewal a fee of about E7/meter
is due. The boat can stay throughout the year but must be out of commission
with the trip log lodged with the local harbour master. Greece requires
non-EU boats to check in and out with the harbour master in each port with
the harbour master recording this in the Trip Log. E15 fee.

After customs we head to Gouvia Marina. Plenty of space available. E70 /
night. Water a bit murky as there are almost 1000 boats in the water and
room for 500 on the hard. Harbour master is closing so we agree to check in
Sunday.

Off to Corfu town for the last evening with the boys. Drinks and dinner at
the Liston. Good mixture of mezedes and mixed meat platter. Great people
watching.
