Amazingly, we all met
up exactly as planned at SXM airport in St Martin.
David is Danish but speaks fluent American English. Joe is a Noo Yorker. Nick is a refreshingly different Ozzie –
no bleach blonde hair and not suntanned and not relentlessly
faux-optimistic. Lee is a bit
older than the twentysomething others, says he’s Welsh but still Scouser
(Liverpool) accent despite almost twenty years living in Canada. Between them all, this crew they speak fluent English,
French, Danish, Swedish, Nowegian, German, Spanish, Yiddish and Zulu. NY Joe does the last two, or so he says.
Went shopping
immediately on Wednesday afternoon, Friday we dived under the hull to scrape
barnacles, easy with the Coppercoat hull treatment - although there shouldn’t
be any barnacles at all. That’s
cos I failed to sand the stuff before relaunch, heyho. Another liftout due in Lanzarote beckons,
sometime in September.
We filled the diesel tanks
this afternoon, so we’re ready to go tomorrow. Not great weather forecast for sailing but not bad. There’s not really enough wind but it’s gonna be like this
for a week and there’s nothing awful due apart from some rain – relatively benign sea – so we’ll
go tomorrow, sailing or more likely quite bit of motorsailing.
