If my advanced and highly sophisticated nautical calculations are correct
(waypoints are fun), we should be exactly halfway to the Azores by tomorrow
midday. this happens to coincide with the skipper's calculations (somehow it
always takes exactly 2 weeks). about 100 nautical miles further, we'll be
the farthest point from land. quite a strange and special feeling.
though i'm beginning to think these stories of flat mirror-like seas are but
rumours... the waves have tossed our worthy craft about relentlessly for 7
days now.
my thoughts so far:
- the ocean is very blue
- even though there's lots of floating algae in the middle of it
- some birds are real loners
- some fish look like birds
- or tiny radio-controlled airplanes
- it's pretty fun to race little storm clouds on the radar
- it's less fun when they destroy your boom 20min before the end of your
night watch
- karim + a few tiny waves = one sick sailor
- oh yeah and he sucks at chess
thanks to everyone who writes. dad i particularly liked your message, comme
tu sais il est un gros plein de soupe insupportable... mom tout va bien, i
wonder how much you'd actually enjoy this kind of trip.
fur du, von mittels der ocean: of course I cooked on time!! (well it's the
only real task on mom day - and i don't have to go grocery shopping)
tomorrow is my second mom day, you know i quite like them even though it can
be difficult when the waves are big. tomorrow i try banana bread... hey
danke fur dein nachricht, war die langste so far :) your news freut mich.
