Minka and I had a shakedown trip to Kalkan and back. Some great winds to take us down and then back a couple of days later.

Kalkan is just beginning to wake up for the season but they decided to replace all the crazy paved streets in the old town and it is all far from complete.

The picture above shows a completed street but they have yet to sweep up the excess gravel and sand.

A sad change is that they have sacked a lot of local government employees as Kalkan is being merged with Kas for administrative purposes. This includes my friend the harbourmaster who is a young man just starting a family. When he saw Minka in the harbour he came down for a chat.....he is hopeful of getting his job back when things settle down. On the positive front there is no one to collect harbour fees so a good place to stop at the moment.

Minka's shakedown revealed that the depth sounder has ceased to work. The faulty sender unit is the bit fitted inside the bronze fitting in the photo below. I have ordered a new one which is kindly being brought out by a friend who is coming out on holiday to Fethiye next week.

Hopefully it is the sender unit that is faulty otherwise I have wasted £360. Everything else checked out with a multimeter so I am hopeful.

Today I went to the police station to arrange for a Residency Visa so I can stay for more than three months. Having got all the paperwork together the chap in the office decided that he had done enough this week so I have to go back on Monday. This is Turkey.....
