Lanzerote - Marina Rubicon. Arrived just as swell beginning to build again and directed to G pontoon after checking in at the office.  Large, well run marina with a "village" built around it. Surrounded by restaurants and shops we did wonder if we were in for a noisy night but it wasn't and we all slept well. Everything at hand, shops, ATM, swimming pool, showers and toilets and best of all wifi that reached the boat. Several more ARC boats gathered here especially those with children aboard as plenty to keep them entertained.
Two days on and the prevailing winds were back so we set off to Fuerteventura. The best of conditions enabled us to goose wing with the new pole past Lobos island reaching speeds of over 8 knots. The east coast of the island of Fuerteventura is dramatic with little opportunity to anchor for the night. Made Gran Tarajal by an early dusk due to heavy cloud cover.
Greeted at the marina by the security guard (truncheon and handcuffs on his belt). Quite a character, explained no toilets or showers because the harbour master was on holiday! Who's to complain at €12 a night with water and electricity included.
We enjoyed our stay which gave us 2 days of rain (the first on the island since 1/2/10). We also witnessed a re-enactment of the battle of Tamasite (1740) when the islanders slaughtered the English Privateers and as if that wasn't enough of a confrontation Robbie and John braved one of the local bars to watch Scotland vs Spain at football. The highlight of the stay was the game of golf Robbie and John played at the course John designed at Las Playitas.
Now it's time for a crew change, so it's off to Gran Canary to await the arrival of Wilf, Tony and Jen's internet shopping!
