We left Cudillero at 0800 (the fishing boats left quietly at 0500) after a very restful night on the mooring———an interesting arrangement whereby we picked up the “transit” buoy which was secured to a forward mooring stone by a length of rope that had a loop to go the forward cleat and a brick to make sure the line did not float. A separate line from the buoy ran astern to another mooring stone via another loop for the stern cleat and another brick. Very simple and very effective.
The forecast was 15 to 20 knots from the north east and sure enough it blew from dead astern. The pole was deployed and with a double reefed main to port on a preventer and a poled genny to starboard we rocked and rolled to Ribadeo at about 7 to 8 knots. The wind increased to 20 to 25 knots for the last few hours so all in all an exhilarating sail after a day’s motoring on Thursday.
Off to explore the town ——and the local wine !
Photos of Cudillero——not the best!
