The rain stopped, the wind died, the sun came out and the temperature rose to the low eighties. Off to the beach to strutt our stuff!  However we were definitely out-struttted by the "hunks in trunks" and the "long legged gals"!
Miami beach stretches for 9 miles with the last 2.5 miles being South Beach

Even the turnstones had flown over from Falmouth!

Supper at a recommended restaurant away from the main, and expensive, restaurants on the drag

On Tuesday morning we collected our hire car——a rather tired and battered Nissan. The Chevrolet stayed in the garage!
A trip to the Publix supermarket to buy and validate a toll pass to stick on the windscreen and we were off on Interstate 1 south towards Key West. However it was a rather tortuous to start as we left Miami on the old road ——a bit like leaving London on the old A4 as opposed to the M4.
180 miles to Key West, mainly single carriage and heavily police enforced speed restrictions ranging from 45 to 55 miles per hour. It was a great drive and the bridges linking the Keys were amazing. We stopped for a “light” lunch at a fishing and boat yard

We arrived at Key West and found our hotel the “Avalon B&B”. Really good, 100 yards from the sea in one direction and 100 yards from the rum bar in the other------- and Christmas ready!
