We left the Crinan Canal and picked up a mooring in Crinan Harbour for a couple of hours in order to wait for the tide to turn. Leava decided to go to Oban and continue their journey to Spitsbergen through the Caledonian Canal. We said our goodbyes and sailed out into the Sound of Luing which the pilot book warned us would be full of churning water and whirlpools. Yesterday with the tide it was fine and we sailed on without incident. We met up with the Pumphreys in Salty and sailed round the bottom of the Isle of Mull into Loch Aline. We dropped a hook and spent a lovely quiet damp night there, Martin and Sarah joined us for a drink before supper. This morning we had a delightful walk around Ardtornish Garden at Morvern, the sun tried but failed to shine, we returned to our boats and sailed on to Tobermory. After hearing the weather forecast we decided to go onto the pontoon, a good choice as it is now pouring with rain again. There is a wonderful chocolate shop here, but provisioning was at the Co-op as usual, expensive with little variety of produce. Mark and I decided to try the local, Macgochans for supper, it was the nearest to the boat and therefore the least soaking experience. The Isle of Mull blended whisky was excellent, as were the scallops and fish and chips. The greenhouse heater has been deployed and reduced the humidity inside the boat which is a great bonus. Now planning for the Isle of Skye.
