Downtown Halifax - a visit to a local brewery (no too early for samples as it was 5 o'clock somewhere!) and then to the museum at Pier 21 - a fascinating insight into the Candian immigration process. Over 1 million immigrants flowed through the seaport's pier welcoming and customs offices during 1928 to 1971. Although not all were welcomed as the immigration laws were modified throughout the period to "de-select - certain nationalities..some things never change!

The city, founded in 1749 was named after George Montague Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax. Overshadowed by nearby ship-building towns of Shelburne and Lunenburg, the small colonial town was largely ignored until its great natural deepwater harbour was realized for the larger shipping lines and fishing industries. Unfortunately the only view of the harbour was another mist shrouded lighthouse!

A drive across from east coast to west along the "highway" (a semi-dual carriageway and probably the best tarmac road in the State) to view the Bay of Fundy. Famous for its tidal range - sometimes as much as 35ft between low and high tide. In fact, some of the Five Islands are reachable by land at low tide - miles of wet sand are exposed.

Then into Parrrsboro for a quant stay at the 1893 Victorian mansion - "The Maple Inn" B&B - deeply cushioned rugs soften the sounds on the original wooden floorboards. The tidal river on the edge of the town shows the depth of tidal flow along its deep cut banks.
