A misty morning starts the day . no surprise! However, it was a surprise to discover we were one hour incorrect - not having realized we had a crossed a time zone sailing east - no wonder the town was deserted (and the bar was busy) yesterday afternoon (but actually it was the early evening)!
The first positive evidence of settlers in the area was Champlain's arrival in 1604. Later the Arcadians, the French settlers of the colony occupied the area. Subsequently, in 1761, Yarmouth was occupied by the New Englanders from Massachussetts. They were enticed here by the offer of free land grants by a government that wished to populate Nova Scotia with people loyal to the Crown, they filled the lands left vacant by the expelled Acadians.
To follow the history and culture around the peninsular - some careful time spent planning a road trip to be undertaken encompassing the mainland of Nova Scotia in 6-7 days!
