Dawn breaks over the eastern horizon of City Island on a clear blue sky day. Early to rise and haul the anchor after a peaceful night of only two watch alarms.

Leaving north of Hart Island and into Long Island Sound to cross to the south side headed to Port Jefferson. A fresh southerly breeze enable full sails (main and jib) to set for a steady morning pace with a single tack to gain water from the shoreline. The afternoon sun brought calmer waters and less wind - motoring the last few hours to get to our port in time to go ashore, admiring the multi-million dollar grand mansions - both traditional and "space-like" futuristic architecture along the shoreline - all no doubt, owner by high fliers and commuters into New York city.

Waiting for the Grand Republic ferry to leave the harbour before we entered gave us time to enjoy the beach views. A Port Jeffersen Launch mooring bouy picked for overnight and settled in before calling the launch to take us over to the town dock. A pleasant stroll around the town, a drink and our first "lobster roll" as an appetizer at the DanFords Hotel and Marina listening to live music on the outside deck - albeit a little on the chilly side! Port Jeff launch back to Magic Friday for smoked salmon and another Pink Panther film (hilarious)!
