A time to leave arrives on all good holidays - Sunday morning was to be ours. Spending the last few "CUC's (Cuban Convertible Pesos") as no U.S. bank would be allowed to re-convert them to dollars - no harm I n stocking up on beers and of course rum ("Why is the rum always gone..?" - Pirates of Caribbean)! Slipping by the other yachts along the canal, stopping at the customs dock for our permission to leave and before long we were under sail and underway - passing the Havana sights for the last time.

Not long before we found the easterly flowing Gulf Stream - giving us a 2-3 knot lift along our way. Wind freshened to 14-15 knots we shot along at 9-10 knots speed over ground - fantastic, it looked like we could made Bimini (Bahamas) before night fall on Monday - some 36 hours time and 235nm later!

Nigh fall brought the eerie sights of lightning storms high in the clouds but thankfully far away - somewhere over Deadman's Cays. Clouds clearing, absence of any light from the moon (not due to rise until shortly befall sunrise the next day), we guided by the lights of billions (plus some) stars with the "cloudy looking" Milky Way streaking across the sky. A night for sailing the high seas!
