A day to visit "Habana Viejo" (Old Havana), armed with our "Top 10 Cuba" guidebook, a classic 1952 Chevrolet taxi (arranged by our friends from Black Swan) we all set off to explore! The taxi driver (Alan) was happy to point out buildings when asked (in Spanish) and took us to the start of our walking tour in Plaza de Armas, laid out in 1592, named for the military exercises that took place and flanked by the Castillo de Real Fuerza. Winding our way through narrow side streets to encounter the Muriel's in the Catedral de Habana (1777), the Plaza Vieja with its buildings spanning four centuries, the Plaza de San Francisco de Asis. Various small shops and museums - an apocathery, a meat shop (a caneria), a sowing factory and entrances to small courtyards of the once private mansions all nestled in the backstreets of old Havana.

A dockside BBQ and grass bowls to end the day as the easterly wind picked up on the setting sun..
