Day 15 - Marina Hemingway - Havana Cuba

At last dawn broke over the Havana horizon, we were ready to contact the marina for clearance to enter. The entrance was not too difficult but certainly needed some concentration for a brief spell before reaching the calmer waters of the marina itself . and to our instructions of stopping at the customs clearance dock - but we have a cruising licence?? Nevertheless, some clearance was still required (we were not surprised) - a few more forms, a stamp on our licence and we were in!
Slip assigned - Canal #1 - port side. Marina Hemingway is an unusual layout of 4 canals (3 of which have ties on both sides of the fixed concrete slips), a ¼ mile road, grassed areas and the occasional buildings (dock-masters office, marina "facilities" etc.) are in located in the middle of the narrow canals. We were on the coast side. A little dilapidated but great to be in Havana, Cuba!
A catch-up on sleep, and a brief explore around the marina canals. Then an invite to join a talk by Addison Chan (the author of the Cuba Waterway Guide) - arranged by a small U.S. regatta we had been adopted by our friends on Black Swan. He was entertaining and provided some useful information for sightseeing Cuba.
Finally, a home-made pizza and a movie rounded off the passage and our first day in Havana..
