Morning tide to sweep us out of the creek of Cumberland Island and thence St Mary's inlet. A very choppy and confused sea as we edged out in-between the breakwaters - not at all as expected - but not unusual - we pushed on convinced that the sea looked calmer further out ... and thankfully it was! Sails set in 10-15 knot winds, unfortunately a north-easterly (forecast turning easterly later in the day) - so the self tacking jib made beating to wind and tacking back and forth simplicity in itself. Avoiding floating logs and even a tree(!) as we progressed north back to Saint Simmons inlet and home to Brunswick. Just as we lined up in the channel a 200m cargo ship appears on the horizon "Libra Atlantic" bound for Brunswick docks. Keeping a careful watch on its progressed we slipped inside Saint Simmons and Jekyll Island to deeper water and more maneuvering space - also avoiding another cargo ship - a busy time for a Friday night. The sun set and soon darkness fell as the giant cargo ship passed us by whilst we stood off out of the channel - keeping contact with the pilot of our intentions. A night arrival at our dock, high tide, no wind - we slipped in quietly almost unnoticed (the security guard came to offer a hand just as we were tying off). Belated sundowners and an easy meal before retiring - we were tired after a long day!
