A day for getting messy - oil and filter change, due on routine maintenance schedule of 500 hours. No matter how hard I try not to spill the oil from
the filter - well, given the small amount of space to work - that's what happens! No matter, just a clean up job. Next to the impeller water seal -
the small drip of sea water from the pump. No choice but to strip it all down and figure out how to change the seal without pulling the complete pump
drive shaft (and bearings) apart! Thanks to a few websites - it seems most amateur mechanics pull the seal from its housing without taking apart. So, a few attempts later the (now) damaged seal was extracted. New one fitted and the housing re-attached with gasket glue. A new impeller installed and all sealed up. Time to tidy up and clean out the sump...oh - an o-ring!! So there was one on the pump housing - no choice but to dismantle and re-fit
the o-ring - remarkably, this time the o-ring seated relatively easy. More gasket glue, re-assembled and cleaned up. A days work done.
