Edging our way quietly out of the marina and down the waterways towards 17th Street Bridge before dawn and a 7:00 a.m. requested opening - then to open sea - on our way! Light southerly winds kept us motor sailing heading south east as we crossed the Gulf Stream (pushing us 3 knots northward) and the Straits of Florida. A busy shipping lane but no concerns with the AIS identifying positions, destinations and closet points of approach - in fact a peaceful day slipping by as we crept towards Bimini, Anchor dropped and bedded in by 18:00hrs off a South Bimini island deserted beach – having decided that we would enter the Alice Springs passageway the next day for our reserved/private slip at Bimini Resorts Marina! Ready for a swim in the pristine waters? Not likely - a group of 3-4 basking 6ft sharks clearly visible in the turquoise waters circling the boat changed our minds! Not wanting tom find out if basking sharks were herbivores or not!! Instead, it was sundowners, backgammon, evening bbq, candlelight dinner - all managed despite the slight roll of the southerly waves.
