A morning run (6+ miles) to auto-parts to pick up the second drive chain - too heavy to run back - a cab came to my rescue!! Most of the day spent measuring chain sizes on the dockside, figuring out how many links to take out (port side being shorter than stardboard), explaning to interested fellow boaters as they walked by - but not quite finsihed as the sun began to set - will need to source some longer tension bolts (another run to a hardware store tomorrow)! Also, troubleshooted the AIS (need a new GPS antenna) and the ships VHF radio (need an entirely new set) - always something to be fixed / replaced on a boat - but progress made! Laundry fully done, inside boat cleaned bow to stern - looking ship-shape! Then came the BREAKING NEWS(!) - a barge has sunk in the only passable entrance/exit to Fort Pierce from the Atlantic - the passageway has been closed by the U.S. Coast Guard as they survey and consider how to raise it - no timeline given as to when we might be able to leave!! Looks like we will have some more time to work on other repairs and potentially even leave the boat where it is and chart a new course to the Bahamas in mid-March - more on that later. As it happens the southerly winds have picked up to 30 knots - so another night in the marina will not be amiss - and for the restaurant, bar and band entertainment!
