A dawn start and with the tide - motoring out of Charleston Harbour (after a small delay as the anchor windlass decided to stop hauling in the anchor chain leaving a few meters to finish by hand)! Perfect northerly / north-easterly wind - fresh and strong provided a good course towards Port Royal Sound and Beaufort. Full sails with genoa goosewinged and the job headsail filling the gap behoind the main - we were surfing down the waves touching 10 knotts at times! And then came two friendly dolphins to play int he bow waves - and to show us how fast they could swim alongside! As expected the wind weakened in the early afternoon to leave us motoring to Port Royal Sound entrance. Sunset came and went, leaving us seeking a comfortable anchorage at the head of Beaufort River by moonlight. Not a problem, anchor down (manually!!) and we were set for the night.
