After a little disturbed night (winds gusting up to 20kn and strong tide currents kept us up wathcing marks at 02:00) we hauled anchor at 08:00 ready for the cold days sail. Motoring out of the breakwaters in difficult seas (waves 4-5ft against the tide) was a challenge but Magic Friday pushed on until we were clear. It was cold!! Reefed sails to start the day we headed on our southerly course towards Charleston. Lighter winds as the day progressed saw full sails out and eventually a final hours motoring to enter Charleston breakwaters. Advise from the harbour pilot of Carnival Fantasy cruise ship closely followed by Mearsk Ohio cargo vessel kept us to one side of the shipping channel as we passed each other! Sunset came and went, darkness fell as we finished motoring up the Ashley River to anchor just off Charleston City Marina at 19:30 - a long (and cold) day - but safely in shelter.
