We were keen to hike around the Ranfurly Bay Scenic Reserve and so decided to take the Wairakau Stream Trail to Totara North.  Although this did not have the vertical ascent up rocky outcrops as per the Duke’s Nose Trail a couple of days earlier, it was nonetheless a 5 hour round hike and we were fortunate that the high tide was perfectly timed to enable a mid-morning trip ashore in the dinghy.

This was a very scenic hike and quite popular with other hikers and we were very pleased to find the funky Gumstore pub at Totara North where we had lunch before returning back to Macushla.
