We were up at first light and heading out of the bay at Santa Cristobal by 6 a.m. to ensure we arrived in good time at Santa Cruz which was 40 miles away.  The weather forecast was spot on and we had an excellent sail with positive current to help as well and we arrived in Puerto Ayora, also known as Academy Bay, mid-afternoon.

The sea bed is sandy, with rocky patches, and since we arrived at high water skipper had something of a workout when he dived down to check the anchor.  It was just as well he did, as our anchor was jammed between a couple of boulders – not conducive to a good night’s sleep.  The next spot we tried was a good sandy one and the anchor buried itself up to its hilt.  Great! Now we could relax.

Our agent’s representative on the island, Irene, arrived with the Port Captain to complete the formalities during which Skipper had to show him the engine.  With a smile and a ‘Muy limpia’ (very clean) the Port Captain wished us a happy stay and went on his way.
