Title: wrinkly backpacking in Argentina - 1

The photos speak for themselves so we hardly need to add any dialogue, but for those who like a read...

Crossing the river from Colonia to Buenos Aires (BsAs from now on) on 19th November, we had just an outline plan for the next few weeks - no bookings.  We went straight to the nearest tourist office - cleverly disguised in a refurbished dockside crane - to enquire about hotels.  We were given an (upside-down) map of the city and pointed in the direction of downtown.  It seems that everyone uses the internet these days!  After a short walk we found a convenient place to stay for a couple of nights.

A relaxing morning in Plaza san Martin

Later people are shopping in the pedestrian streets
. . .            . . . rather than admiring Eva - or is it Cristina?

But it's busy as usual in the leafy Palermo district

It doesn't take long to realise that BsAs is a great city with a very European feel to it and plenty of things to do but once we'd got orientated we confined ourselves to changing some dollars, booking a flight and hotel in Puerto Iguazu, shopping for hiking boots and enjoying the Argentine staples of grilled meats and ice cream.

It has been suggested that we go backpacking in style!  Will this do?

to be continued . . .
