Funchal is a busy tourist based town with a visiting cruise liner on the dock everyday.  Our first night was spent at an incredibly rolly anchorage, where neither of us, but especially John got little sleep.

We have spent a few wandering around the town and relaxing.  John drilled and tapped new holes in the transom to reattach the swim ladder so I no longer have to look like a floundering seal trying to board the boat when I've been for a swim.

Yesterday, we got a bus into the mountains and went for a fabulous walk along mountain ridges with stupendous view and precipitous drops all around.  The hike ended with a descent through a wood of Eucalyptus trees.  Definitely one of the most stunning walks we've ever done.
The path wound it's way through steep cliffs and dense vegetation following a totally improbable route, at times it had been hewn out of the solid rock.  We found a most welcome refreshing stream on our arrival at the bottom which slaked our thirst and cooled our sweaty heads.  We enjoyed it so much we plan to do at least one other walk before we leave Madeira.
