Day 22 and Kevin the crew reporting only 80 miles
from St Lucia. There's renewed excitement aboard Little Blue today - all those
days have been ticked off the calendar and we're nearly there !!!!!!! Give it
another thirty miles or so and we stand some chance of seeing the first signs of
land - maybe some stationary clouds above the chain of islands or if not before
dark then maybe the loom of a distant lighthouse.
It's not been too hard on board since we left the
bad weather behind a week or so ago, we're well settled into a routine with lots
of reading, lots of line squalls to keep the boat washed down and almost the
biggest effort goes into writing the blog and working out what the days creative
cooking menu will be ! I've even celebrated today by breaking out my
last clean tee shirt - can you imagine how dirty a tee shirt gets after a week
of being soaked in salt water and once that happens they never get dry again
properly ! - so I'm enjoying my clean tee shirt today - ahhh the simple luxuries
in life !!
I'm very pleased to say that after more than three
weeks cooped up together, the three of us are still getting on fine - we've all
been a bit tired and grumpy at times but spirits are high. I met Chris and
Barbara for the first time earlier this year in La Coruna marina in northern
spain. They berthed next to me and as is oft the way with sailing, before you
knew it I'd invited them aboard for drinks and food. They
talked about doing the crossing to the caribbean and how it was hard to find
crew so I tentatively said I might be interested. Anyway, a few weeks later I
lew down to portugal, having already sailed my yacht back to sunny Falmouth -
the home of beautifull women and excellent beer !! We then spent three weeks
sailing from Portugal to the canaries and round some of the islands there. We
all got on well enough and plans were made for this crossing - and now its
nearly over ! Its taken a lot of time and money to get the boat ready
for this trip and I feel privileged to have done it with them - thanks Chris and
Barbara its been great. Barbara will do the blog tommorow, reporting on
our arrival so this is the last you'll hear from me. My girlfriend Lily's flying
out on xmas day for a couple of weeks aboard little blue so I'm looking forward
to an excellent xmas and new year - and from Kevin the crew I wish the very same
to you.
