Kevin the crew back again.
Phosphoresence - thousands of electric green,
brightly glowing organisms stirred to life by movement in the water. A dark
moonless cloudy night sky, then they catch my eye - two bright green sparkling
torpedo's hurtling in at the side of the boat, diving at the last second to
reappear on the other side. Again and again they twist and turn like children
with a new toy - at last, the first dolphins of the journey !
A thought............
" In fourteen hundred and ninety two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
In fourteen hundred and ninety three
he sailed right back across the sea
".
It strikes me that on this land of ours, we knock
buildings down and build bigger, taller ones. We build bridges and ever wider
but slower roads - but what of the oceans ? Here in the middle of the atlantic I
see exactly what Columbus must have seen five hundred years ago - just blue sea
and empty sky - now thats one of the big attractions of sailing !
Ok, what news, well the fridge threw the towel in
yesterday - probably the thermostat but it doesn't help knowing that. Looks like
we have to cook all the vacuum packed chicken and steaks today, then its down to
fresh fish and tins - we've got plenty of tins and fishing will be a
welcome addition to our daily routine.
Tell us about the weather I hear you ask ? ok, I
was trying not to mention it but seeing as you're interested - blue sky and hot
sun, suncream or sunburn. Drink lots or dehydrate. 28 degree's yesterday and
each day a little warmer and more humid as we go south. Around mid afternoon the
sun slides in front of the twin headsails and we don't see it again
until the evening when it drops to the horizon - underneath the sails. Then
quick as a flash, ( but not yet the legendary green flash ! ) it suddenly
falls beyond the horizon and is gone.
And so am I until the next time.
