Title: Day 3 - Wind reducing but still going south

27:11 25:36.955N 17:56.423W

We've got into a routine now, 3 hours on watch and 6 hours off. I'm on the dawn watch today and with problems from last night now fixed I now have 2 minutes to type in a few words for the diary. Pictures will follow...

Day 1 The day started windy and several boats had to go back to Las Palmas to make repairs. We headed EAST and then after a few hours turn SOUTH, we clipped the acceleration zone down the east of the island to help make up speed. Which proved successful as we over took several boats, only to come, becalmed by night fall. Kevin came over with a 24 hour bug, so Barbara and I had to cover his shift for the first night. . No time wasted we spent the early morning hours setting up our twin head sails and poles (everything takes twice as long in the dark.

Day 2 after a few teething problems with the head sails (pulleys coming off, clip's breaking - normal stuff) we were down wind sailing like the pros. We where over taking more boats than day one (that's good) but we were being over taken as well (not so good). Although we are one of the smaller boats we have been given a handicap that puts us in group above the small boats. So we've got to do everything we can to win that group and show the men from the boys. The evening was spent watching Harry Potter on DVD with thanks to our DuoGen we seem to have enough power for most things, although to ensure we keep that power we have set up the Hydrovane to save power on the Auto pilot. We have also installed battery operated LED lights in the galley and cabins to make further savings and as I say we can now watch DVD's till the cows come home.

Day 3 as I said I'm on the early shift and today I'm cooking as well so got to get breakfast on the go, Scrambled egg on toast with sauté potatoes and mushrooms. And then a late lunch, roast chicken with all the trimmings. The wind is starting to reduce now so I might motor further SOUTH WEST to pick up the 'Trade wind'. Barbara and Kevin are going to try fishing today, so fish for dinner. Well with the wonders of modern techno this email is about to go up into space and then back to earth and be on a computer screen near you soon. Little Blue signing off for now.
