Title: Last blog for a while

As you probably already know , I am home for Christmas and Lila is tucked up in Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca Lanzarote awaiting repairs and some TLC on her varnish. What isn’t common knowledge is that I have decided to shelve plans to head off for New Zealand after Christmas. This is for reasons to do with being away from home and the family and the hit and miss nature of finding compatible crew with whom to share the experience.

I have had a really great time getting Lila down to the Canaries and, on balance, the crewing side of things has been great. However, to set off on ocean crossings and contemplating months away from family, that part of crewing didn’t work out well enough to maintain my motivation to press on. Overall there have been 9 different crew plus me involved in the roughly 2500 miles we have sailed/motored.

I am looking forward to escaping the UK winter while I supervise getting a few jobs done on Lila in January and doing a few myself that I would have to wait for May weather to start in the UK. The flights to Lanzarote are cheap. I got home for £30 with Thompson. Hopefully there will be scope for a couple of boys trips , some family sailing and some sailing with friends. The mooring is paid up until May and at that point I will decide whether to continue in that part of the world or move Lila into the Med for a season or two.

Anyhow, that’s it for now. Here are a few pictures.

Thanks for taking an interest.

Regards and Seasons Greetings
