“I did not sign up for that... “ ( I forgot her last word...) as we were pounding for 10 hours against heavy swell, waves covering the bow to the mast step, spray all over the boat and a 1.5 kn of current in the nose. As expected, it was not fun and we were heading toward Polynesia (SW) instead of Callao. Before getting a mutiny on board, we tacked toward the coast, ease the sheet and settle for a somewhat smoother ride but way out of our original plan. 4 days later, we landed at Puerto Lucia Marina, Salinas, Ecuador. The trade winds are well set from the SE, the door to the South close itself on us for the coming winter ( South hemisphere is in June-October). We are paying for the extended stay in Panama. But we will still try to hug the coast and go South weather permitting, if not we will stay here till October.
