Azores to Dartmouth, Day 8 - Thursday June 10, 2010

At 1200 hrs UT:

48:35.9N 12:19.8W

Distance to Dartmouth: 397 Nautical Miles

Well, all I can say is that yesterday, Wednesday, was a miserable day on the water.  We experienced 40 knots of wind on the nose and very big seas. Progress under sail alone was impossible and we reluctantly were motor-sailing for 24 hours to keep Knightime's bow into the wave systems. Hand steering in 2 hour shifts was the order of the day for Hoff, Martin and Beer, with Charlotte providing each with food and hot drinks.

Apologies for the nil post yesterday -The blog was a casualty of the weather conditions

Today, the sea state has improved and we are now in good spirits, making progress, hard on the wind, towards Dartmouth.

...and we are back on British Summer Time - hope it warms up soon, it's almost Midsummer!

Not a fan of giving ETA's in this changeable watery world, so check out Google Earth, what do you think?....answers by carrier pigeon, or gull - lots of majestic gulls with 4ft wingspans soaring out here - any thoughts, Iona?

More later,

Hoff,
