There comes a time when the next task requires a journey upward.  It is always a good idea to check the fixtures and fittings at the top of the mast anyway but this year we needed to replace the wind vane that had been damaged.

We had been told that you can use the anchor windlass to haul someone up thereby saving your arms on the winches so, with a friends help we gave that a go.  Unfortunately we didn’t get very far because the angles on the ropes were all wrong for what we needed and then having sorted that out the motor protested and cut out.  Mike got this far....

Being the lighter and more feeble of the two it makes more sense for Carol to go up the mast which she enjoys doing, so is no great hardship.

A close up of the new weather vane ready to go on.  Of course it is never entirely straightforward and the old one didn’t want to come out without a fight but Carol prevailed and got the new one in without dropping anything.

The view from the top is pretty good.

And then it was Ben’s turn.....
