One of the main events we attended was described as a cultural Carnival.  After initially sitting in a stand and listening to the Vice Regent give another speech of  welcome we were invited to join the carnival procession.  We were not watching the carnival, we were the carnival!  We duly processed through the streets of the main town of Tual for about 2 miles.  The parade was led by a school drum band in bright blue uniforms whilst we walked amongst the floats and groups of school children performing their different traditional dances .  The procession seemed to stop at each road junction to allow the dance groups to perform and then we all move on again.
