The main events of the week have been borrowing the Marina’s “Ute” (pickup truck) to take the anchor chain to Bundaberg to be dipped in acid to clear any rust and then re-galvanised, and having the propeller coated in a specialised non-toxic antifouling substance.

Eventually we booked the date to be lifted and re-launched so that the yacht was in the water on 30 April, the day before Meryon and Madeline were due to arrive.  Meryon has been a great friend for over 40 years since we first climbed together in 1973.  Since when we have been on numerous climbing expeditions together including twice sharing a tent on Everest.  He has been sailing since childhood and is vastly more experienced than me so I am delighted he volunteered to help me take Tashi Delek to Singapore.  Madeline is also a long standing friend who we had lunch with in Brisbane in October and who we invited to come and spend the weekend on Tashi Delek.  However, the launch was delayed by 24 hours because of a massive storm and torrential rain.  It eased the following day just long enough for us to be launched, then it started again.

On the move at last

and heading for the marina slip

Back in the water and the storm resumes, just as I set off in a hire car to collect Meryon from the airport and Madeline from the railway station.
