Sadly no diving in what is said to be one of the best spots in the world.  The divemasters were having a couple of days compulsory rest before an influx of guests who would all want to dive.  Grrr.  However, a mass snorkel with Moana Roa and Sud Oest out on the reef seemed a reasonable substitute.  Except that we had a problem with our outboard on a go-slow which meant we phuttered out there while the others zoomed.  All fun once we arrived though.

Laurie has a great waterproof camera with a very wide angle lens.  He took this rather fun shot of the three of us.

Laurie, the outrigger paddler in chief to the fleet, launched his outrigger (purchased in Tahiti and carried on their catamaran, you can do that sort of thing with a cat, would be tricky on a monohull) and we had a go.  It was fantastic fun, really streamlined so you got a lot of zoom for your efforts but a little tricky to turn due to the length.  More oil tanker than skateboard.  Carol took the easy way out and kept leaning to the left putting weight onto the outrigger bit and therefore reducing the chance of a capsize.  Mike did it properly – and capsized.
