939 nautical miles to run so we are definitely on the downhill side now.

Sea conditions have improved considerably so we have enjoyed a much steadier
ride over the last 24 hours which has meant that we can do more than just
sail the boat, eat and sleep. Bread has been made
and fishing rod is out (loaves and fishes anyone?) Unfortunately it
appears that the reel is broken so lure was on and we were good to go then
couldn't run the line. Grrrrr. We are now experimenting with setting up a
hand line while seeing if we can fix the reel. Some of the other boats have
started to catch fish which could be a factor of the calmer seas but we have
also learnt that, according to folklore, mariners law or just sods law, it
is well known that you will never catch a fish if you have bananas on board!
Well, well. Not sure how that works out but it is a good excuse for the
time being. Now that our bananas are long gone it may not be an excuse for
much longer.

We found some fantastically delicious, very full of fruit and not too sweet
Ecuadorian strawberry jam in Galapagos that is going down very well on the
bread.

Interesting how cool it is during the day when the sun is behind a cloud and
then how properly cold it gets at night. Shirt, fleece and oilies jacket
are all required to stay comfortable.

Dancing Bear, our original buddy boat still has not left Galapagos where
they continue to wait for a part for their autopilot. Having had similar
long delays in Lanzarotte and then in Cape Verde waiting for parts we very
much feel their pain. The other boats making the crossing with us are ahead
but still in contact twice a day so we will meet up with them when we make
landfall.

All is well.
