We were curious to visit Mustique and several other cruisers had told us it was delightful.  It is a long and convoluted story but somewhat by chance we had found out that the Managing Director of the Mustique Company had been an officer in 7th Gurkha’s.  Although Mike and Roger had overlapped by a few years they hadn’t served in the same place but still knew of each other so we got in touch.

We were made incredibly welcome, not charged for our mooring, given a Mule (Kawasaki little jeep thing, modern day version of a Mini Moke) to explore the island with, invited to the weekly cocktail party in the Cotton House Hotel and a picnic with family and friends on Macaroni Beach.  Everyone we met was interesting, friendly and great fun and we had several surprises along the way but first some pictures to set the scene.

The moorings in Britannia Bay (renamed after the Queen visited on Britannia).  The only place on the island that you can moor which helps to limit the number of visitors.

Obviously only little planes land and visitors are flown to Barbados for the international flights.

This is the back of Basils Bar which is built out over the rocks and sea.  It is the only stand-alone bar on the island.  There are two small hotels with bars/restaurants and that is it.

The only vehicles are Mules and a few electric cars and vans.  Fantastic. The beaches are pretty awesome as well……………..

and a drive along the avenue of palm trees, one of the only manicured places on the island.  Mostly it is immaculate but left in its natural state with some fantastic coastal walks and many glorious views.
