Little Lameshur Bay, south side of St John's Island, US Virgin Islands.

We have been here for three nights and intend to stay over Christmas. Our
original plans to moor in one of the lovely bays along the north coast were
shelved when the cruisers weather forecast started to talk about large
northerly swells coming along the north coast quickly rising to twelve feet.
The forecast said it would be a great few days for surfing. We decided it
was a great few days for changing our plans and finding somewhere else to
go.

This bay was recommended by our friends in Oriental, Diane and Michael,
particularly for the number of turtles and the great snorkelling. We had
five turtle sightings by the time we had picked up the buoy and on a first
short foray with the snorkel we saw a stingray and a lionfish so, in general
we would agree. We are, as always, doing boat jobs (rust - the enemy) and
catching up on some reading. It is tremendous to be swimming again.

The little Christmas tree is lashed to a winch and the battery powered LED
fairy lights (£5, Marks and Spencer's) seemed to have survived a year in the
lockers. We found a recipe for a tropical fruit Christmas pudding on the
Waitrose Christmas App and have done a sort of version of that using the
dried fruit that we had in the grab bag as emergency liferaft rations for
our passage down here. Carol wasn't entirely sure what to replace the Atora
suet with and decided to use grated Crisco (a baking substance that is a bit
like Trex). In the end she completely forgot to put it in so we now have a
sort of Christmas pud made with emergency date, mango, apricot and raisin
rations that is fat free and gluten free. Pudding with all the fun taken
out as Jemma would say. Still it is darkish brown and the right shape so we
will stick a palm frond on top and be very happy with it. Rum butter of
course is plentiful so that will help.
