Sunday 5th May – contd:

At the Sunday evening SSB net s/y Amari reported to the net that s/y Amanda had requested assistance as their steering chain had broken and they were having to use their emergency tiller. Amari was standing by sailing close to them to help if needed. Amari also has a spare steering chain if needed. Karma Daze was the next nearest boat, about 10 miles away so we were asked to keep them both company.  We could not see them on the AIS but had some idea of their position, so headed off in their direction.  It was now dark and they were still not registering on the SSB. When the position reports of all the boats came in at 8am the next morning, we found we had actually overtaken them some time in the night!

The next day, Amari managed to get their spare steering chain across to Amanda as a spare as Amanda had managed to repair their broken one...
