Wednesday 26^th July

We decided to move the boat out of the Lagoon and pick up a mooring ball outside the breakwater.  The weather front has gone and the wind is now from the south west again so we will be protected.  The bascule bridge opens at 08.15, and 10.15 this morning, so we will go out on the 10.15 opening as that will be on a rising tide.

The bridge opened at 10.20 and we went through with 2 other boats. The incoming current was quite strong in the narrow channel but we popped out the other side and negotiated the narrow channel ok – the shallow bits were quite easy to see.

We picked up a mooring ball and then went into the dinghy dock   and then went and picked up the bus at the ferry dock.

As we are OAPs we got a day ticket for $5 each instead of the usual $8.  The number 13 bus runs between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven via Oak Bluffs which is where there is a supermarket that sells beer and wine so we can stock up.

The bus journey to Edgartown took about 20 minutes, and stops just outside the town centre then you have to walk for about 10 minutes to get to main part. Lots of shops, lots of tourists and lots of restaurants. We picked one overlooking the harbour and had a very enjoyable lunch of calamari, crab cake and a glass of Sancerre each.

After a wander round we walked back to the bus and went to Oak Bluffs.  Another very crowded small anchorage and a much more touristy town. Lots of very nice houses.  And then to the supermarket for more beer and wine.

We got back to the dinghy to find that we had a violation notice as we did not have a registration number on the dinghy or our boat name.  Next time we would be fined. As we are not coming back in we didn’t bother doing anything about it.

Tomorrow we are going back to Cuttyhunk to sit out another weather front before heading to Jamestown, Rhode Island.
